   Henry Rouyer
Henry Rouyer, born in Vevey in 1928, lives and works in Paris since approximately half a century. The artist, of international reputation, has received a large number of prices, distinctions and gold and silver medal across the world, for the originality of his mixed medium, on raw linen. The Gallery has presented his paintings in March 2005 and is happy to exhibit today a number of works on paper, most of them never shown so far, as well as the astonishing Lessives, until the end of June.

Hanging precisely like washing, on a string with clothes-pegs, these works are painted in gouache on paper. Made of dripping colors, penetrating, dramatic, totally original, the Lessives, painted around a recurrent theme, illustrate the unlimited creation resources of the artist and express his deep disarray towards himself and his fight to save his eye sight, threatened to disappear.

The Lessives have been realised in Ardèche between 1961 and 1964, where the artist stayed during several months. There, he met the healer Miss Jeanne, in the garden of whom the works dried hanging in the sun, like washing, which gave their denomination.
Some examples of the series of the Faces, with distorted and painful faces, executed during the same period, accompany the Lessives, as well as some Compositions, with crumpled paper and metal sheets, realised in the second half of the eighties.
